Interactions of invasive pumpkinseed with a riverine endemic fish indicate trophic overlap but minimal consequences for somatic growth and condition

چکیده
The North American invasive fish pumpkinseed Lepomis gibbosus has been associated with some detrimental ecological consequences in parts of its range. Here, we tested the trophic interactions endemic stream Aegean chub Squalius fellowesii (‘chub’) a Mediterranean-type water course SW Anatolia, Turkey, using bulk stable isotope approach (δ 13 C, δ 15 N). Seven sampling sites were able to be grouped as presence ( n = 2) and absence 3), 2). Across these groups, metrics revealed that (isotopic) niche size was similar presence/absence, but had larger presence. In where they are co-habited, their niches showed convergence, no apparent for growth or body condition, suggesting there minimal this sharing food resources. These results suggest riverine invasion on minimal.

Trophic polymorphism in a riverine fish: morphological, dietary, and genetic analysis of mountain whitefish
Trophic polymorphisms are a prominent form of phenotypic diversification in many animal taxa. Northern temperate lakes have become model systems for the investigation of sympatric speciation due to trophic polymorphisms. Many examples of niche-based phenotypic variation occur in temperate lakes, whereas northern rivers offer few such examples. To further investigate the conditions under which t...
متن کاملa comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection
supervisors play an undeniable role in training teachers, before starting their professional experience by preparing them, at the initial years of their teaching by checking their work within the proper framework, and later on during their teaching by assessing their progress. but surprisingly, exploring their attributes, professional demands, and qualifications has remained a neglected theme i...

Recent research bridging mechanistic and ecological approaches demonstrates that plant attributes can affect herbivores, natural enemies of herbivores, and their interaction. Such effects may be genetically variable among plants and/or induced in individual plants by herbivore attack, and are mediated by primary plant attributes (i.e. nutritional quality and physical structure) and defense-rela...
متن کاملCompetitive Interactions between Invasive Nile Tilapia and Native Fish: The Potential for Altered Trophic Exchange and Modification of Food Webs
Recent studies have highlighted both the positive and negative impacts of species invasions. Most of these studies have been conducted on either immobile invasive plants or sessile fauna found at the base of food webs. Fewer studies have examined the impacts of vagile invasive consumers on native competitors. This is an issue of some importance given the controlling influence that consumers hav...
